About the programme
UCD, in collaboration with Zurich and with support from the Z Zurich Foundation and Rethink Ireland, has commenced a ground breaking new two-year programme called Power 2 Progress. This two-year intervention led programme will aim to address education inequality in Ireland, by supporting over 600 senior cycle students from 21 DEIS schools in reaching their full academic potential and ultimately achieve greater success. The programme will also fund PhD research to inform on future educational policy in Ireland.
Programme activities
School based student learning supports
UCD student teachers will provide additional educational support to participating students through weekly tutorials over the course of their senior cycle.
Outreach days
The programme will facilitate onsite visits to UCD to encourage students to pursue further education and professional careers.
Building the digital infrastructure in DEIS schools
In order to bridge the digital divide, the programme provides participating students with their own laptop.
Inform future educational policy
The programme will also fund PhD research to examine the effectiveness of different intervention techniques with a view to providing actionable solutions to inform future policy around addressing socio-economic disadvantage in the Irish educational system.
